Obituary: David R. Burns, 61

January 31, 1964 – September 15, 2025

David R. Burns, born on January 31, 1964, to John and Nancy (Lee) Burns, passed away peacefully at his home in Reading, MA, on September 15, 2025.

David was a graduate of Reading Memorial High School, class of 1982. His fondest memories of his time there were playing for the varsity hockey and golf teams. His love of hockey later inspired him to volunteer as a coach with Reading Youth Hockey.

David ran a small business as a copier technician for 39 years, and as a colleague recently reported, his customers loved him. When he wasn’t working, he spent most of his time making home improvements, tinkering in his meticulously organized garage while listening to sports radio, and repairing and keeping the family cars (especially his Mustang convertible!) running.

David will be remembered for his friendly smile, his sense of humor and his genuineness. But mostly, he will be remembered for his devotion to his wife and two sons.

David is survived by his wife of 36 years, Maureen (Carley) Burns, sons Nick J. Burns of Quincy and Charlie D. Burns of Los Angeles, CA, sister Sandy Cowell of Brockton and brothers Tommy Roy of North Reading, Danny Roy of Hampton NH, Scott Burns of Manchester, NH, and the late Doug Roy of Medford. He is also survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews, who will miss him dearly.

David’s funeral services and burial are private and there are no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in David’s memory to the American Cancer Society 3 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701 www.cancer.org
