What is happening?
The MBTA is proposing to build a turnback track, inside existing railroad property, at the site of a historic second track bed next to the current main line. The proposed turnback would extend for 4,500 feet between Woburn and Willow Streets. The proposed location is further from more densely populated areas of town than Reading Station where some trains turn (reverse back) to Boston today. This proposal was introduced to the Reading Community at a public meeting held in February. This meeting will provide answers to questions raised by attendees at the February event.
How Will This Impact You?
The turnback track sets the stage to provide service on the Haverhill Line every half hour, on weekdays, between 5:30AM and 7:30PM. It also represents an investment in the future double tracking of the line all the way to Haverhill and is part of the MBTA’s larger program of increasing midday commuter rail service across the core of the system.
