Letter to the Editor:
Our Select Board acts in mysterious ways. It raises issues with RCTV, a productive, valuable, and beloved partner and contributor to our community and inexplicably jumps to the conclusion the Executive Director needs to go.
The SB has no authority to direct the independent Board of Directors of RCTV to fire its Executive Director. His employment is at the will of the RCTV Board, whose members have shown up and defended him and their organization from the overreach of the Select Board at its meetings on May 27 and June 10.
I’ve watched the videos of these SB meetings. I witnessed Select Board members Bacci, Haley, and Murphy bring up issues with RCTV which should have been dealt with during the renegotiation of its contract, which has supposedly been underway. Instead, I learn that the issues at hand have occurred repeatedly thanks, in part, to a lack of oversight. The lack of oversight is due to the absence of language in a contract that would define parameters to improve both communication and performance.
The Select Board needs to end its inappropriate power grab, and focus on resolving these issues in the appropriate way through sincere negotiation that will preserve the town’s relationship with this essential community resource.
