Celebrating the Life of Michael Coltman

Hundreds gather at Memorial Park to honor the life of a beloved community leader, volunteer, and champion of Pickleball in Reading

Reading, MA — Hundreds attended a “Picnic in the Park” celebration of life for longtime Reading resident, Michael Coltman. Mike’s family held the event at Memorial Park, a place Mike cherished for times spent in Ultimate Frisbee and Pickle Ball events.

Mike and his wife, Judy, have served the Town of Reading in so many capacities: Scouting, the Reading Food Pantry, Friends of the Reading Public Library, and Town Elections, to name a few. Many in attendance came to know the Coltmans through the sport of Pickleball. Mike was the president and smiling face of the Reading Pickle Ball Players Association and is credited with shepherding the new courts through the approval process. They are expected to be built next year.

In all the memories shared, kindness, devotion to family and community, and generosity were common threads, as was Mike’s endearing smile.

In his official obituary, his family suggests: “To continue Mike’s spirit, please continue engaging and volunteering with your community.”
