Reading, MA – On Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Secretary Ed Augustus, Jr. of the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities, accompanied by Representative Richard Haggerty, visited the Reading Housing Authority’s Tannerville site. This facility consists of 80 one-bedroom apartments dedicated to seniors and disabled individuals.

During the visit, Secretary Augustus reiterated his commitment to understanding the challenges faced by local public housing authorities across Massachusetts. “Seeing these facilities firsthand allows me to better grasp the unique obstacles our communities encounter in providing affordable housing,” said Secretary Augustus.
Kathryn Gallant, Executive Director of the Reading Housing Authority, expressed her appreciation for the Secretary’s visit, stating, “Having Secretary Augustus here today is incredibly important for our community. His commitment to understanding our challenges highlights the state’s support for public housing and reinforces our efforts to provide safe and affordable homes for those in need.”
The Tannerville site visit included other key local figures such as Selectboard member Karen Rose-Gillis and Reading Housing Board Member Timothy Kelley. Together, they discussed the ongoing efforts to enhance living conditions and support for vulnerable populations in the area.
This visit is part of Secretary Augustus’s initiative to tour each public housing authority in the Commonwealth, aiming to build stronger partnerships and develop actionable solutions for housing challenges.
