Sarah Bacci and Ethan Dumas, Class of ‘25, honored as top students in their fields at University of Rhode Island’s annual Academic Excellence ceremony

At a recent ceremony on May 15, 2025, at the University of Rhode Island’s Edwards Hall, Sarah Bacci and Ethan Dumas were awarded the distinguished Academic Excellence Awards.
The University Academic Excellence Awards are presented each year to graduating seniors who have proven to be exceptional students. Sarah Bacci and Ethan Dumas were selected by their respective departments as the most outstanding in their chosen fields. Each was presented with a URI medallion from URI President Marc Palange and Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Barbara Wolfe. They also received a Certificate of Academic Excellence from the dean of their respective college.
The students are selected for the awards by their departmental faculty and deans based on grade point average and other areas of consideration such as honors project, research presentation, community service, and extraordinary professional and civic promise. “As educators, there is little we enjoy more than celebrating the achievements and impact of our students,” said Wolfe. “Through your hard work and determination, you have set an example for what can be accomplished here at URI. Thank you for taking full advantage of the opportunities you have had to learn and to grow at URI, setting yourselves up for success in whatever challenge or opportunity you take on next.”
Sarah Bacci, daughter of Erin Calvo-Bacci and Carlo Bacci, received the Human Development and Family Science award. Ethan Dumas, son of Susan Shields and Marc Dumas, received the Dietetics award.
