Obituary: Joyce L. (Meikle) Lindsay, 83

December 31, 1941 – June 8, 2025

Joyce M. (Meikle) Lindsay, a longtime resident of Reading and Peabody MA, passed away on June 8, 2025, at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She was 83 years of age. Joyce was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Russell and Margaret (Smith) Meikle.

Joyce grew up in Reading and graduated from Reading High School in 1958. She attended North Essex Community College and got her associate’s degree in PA/Secretarial, then later took night classes to get her bachelor’s degree. She worked for A.W. Chesterton Company and later served as the executive assistant to the CEO at Comdex. She was in a bowling league, taught ceramic classes in her home, and was very talented at painting and sewing. She was a very adventurous and hard-working woman who just loved to have fun. She was loved and will be deeply missed.

Joyce was the beloved wife of the late Richard Lindsay. She was the long-time partner of David Rayworth. Joyce is the devoted mother of Rebecca Burkle of Quincy and Chris Brown of Wakefield. Loving grandmother of Taylor and Dustin Burkle and cherished sister of Pam Queen of St. Louis, MO.

A visitation will be held for Joyce at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Friday, June 13, from 4-7pm. Her funeral and burial will be private.
