April 16, 1953 – May 22, 2025

Albert “Al” Turner, lovingly known as “Albie” to many who knew him growing up, passed away peacefully in Massachusetts, surrounded by loved ones. Originally from Reading, Massachusetts, Al lived a life full of adventure, compassion, and quiet strength.
He graduated from Reading Memorial High School and went on to build a life rooted in hard work, nature, and family. Though he was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes. He had an adventurous heart and a deep appreciation for life’s simple, meaningful moments.
Early in his career, Al worked as a mechanic for Volkswagen and Gray’s Towing. After relocating to Maryland, he served as Executive Director for the International Book Bank, a nonprofit that distributed educational books to underserved communities around the world—work that reflected his generous spirit and global mindset.
Al found his peace outdoors. Whether hiking, camping in any season (yes, even the snow), or cruising down open roads on his Harley-Davidson, he embraced every opportunity for adventure. He was most at home by the lake in Maine—a cherished family compound lovingly built by his father and the Turner men, including his uncles George Turner, Al Turner, Bob McCarthy, and his cousins Phil and Ron Watson, and others. It was a place rich in family history, where he often spent quiet moments in the woods or by the water, surrounded by nature and the legacy of those he loved.
A creative soul, Al had a passion for photography and music. He loved capturing the world through the lens of a camera and believed in savoring moments, not just passing through them.
Al was a devoted father to his daughters: Vanessa Pineda, Sandra Turner, and Colette Stayner. They were his world. He was a steady, comforting presence—always ready with a listening ear, a word of advice, or a simple hug. His love for them was constant and unconditional.
He also raised his grandson, DJ (Delmar Jr.), with love and dedication, taking on a fatherly role with care and pride.
Al was a proud grandfather to DJ (Delmar Jr.), Christian, Sophia, Carter, and Olivia—each of whom brought him joy, pride, and light even on the darkest days.
He is also lovingly remembered by his niece Sarah Ruiz and nephew Cody Chamberlain, along with extended family and friends who were touched by his quiet strength and unwavering love.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Leslie and Theodore Turner, and his dear sister, Sandra Chamberlain. While his presence will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing he is now reunited with them—riding freely and at peace in the place he always felt most free.
Funeral services and burial are private and there are no visiting hours.
