Wakefield, MA — What hidden stories could your neighboring town reveal? A world-famous abolitionist? Pioneering political actions? Two dedicated local history enthusiasts have uncovered just that in Wakefield—and much more! Their research has unveiled an extraordinary tapestry of Black heritage that has long been overlooked. Now, they’re eager to share these remarkable stories and inspire the community to reconnect with this rich history.
Wakefield’s first-ever Black History Walking Tour will take place during the Soldiers and Sailors Monument Rededication on Saturday, May 31st. The tour will begin at 1 p.m. on the steps of the Lucius Beebe Memorial Library and will last about one hour, covering approximately one mile around downtown Wakefield. The route is fully accessible, with curb cuts at all street crossings, and light amplification will be provided to ensure everyone can hear comfortably.
