LtE: Not Well Done! Well, Don’t

Dear Editor

I am writing regarding Nancy Dockor’s letter regarding “Well Done”.

In the letter Nancy hopes they can work together as “sisters”. While I fully support diversity, equity, and inclusion, equality means accepting all individuals fairly, without bias or preference based on everything, including gender. Promoting and celebrating one sex over another, as Nancy did, is nothing more than reverse discrimination.

Imagine if I wrote the following: A Select Board that represents reading comprised 52% of men, truly represents our voters. I would have been called misogynistic, because that’s what that is. Did she forget the other genders? They are voters too. I find that calling the three woman ‘“sisters” and celebrating them because they are women is up there with calling Halsey, Arena and Ensminger the “Old Boys club”. It’s gross and has ZERO place in our town. Yet, if I search a letter, I am SURE I can find one saying just that.

Dear Reading Select Board, lets ensure that all volunteers are voted in based on their qualifications, performance, and contributions, rather than characteristics and gender.

Congratulations to Karen and Melissa.
