Lynnfield Honors Revolutionary Roots with 250th Anniversary Celebration

Original play, family activities, and colonial reenactments bring 1775 to life this Friday and Saturday on the Common

Lynnfield, MA — This Friday and Saturday (April 18 and 19), the town of Lynnfield marks 250 years since its militia company marched off and fought the British Regulars on April 19, 1775.

On Friday evening, the Lynnfield Historical Society will stage an original play called “Shadows of 1775,” telling the story of the militia through the actual words, stories, and legends of the local patriots from 250 years ago. It takes place at the Centre Congregational Church chapel, 5 Main Street, Lynnfield at 7 pm. It is free and open to the public, on a first come, first seated basis.

On Saturday morning, events begin at 11 am with children’s events at the library – three-cornered hat making, flags, and the reading of Longfellow’s “Midnight Ride of Paul Revere.” On the Common is the “Patriot Gallery,” signs depicting the stories of the 38 militiamen who answered the call. Between 12:30 pm and 1 pm, Martin Herrick is slated to ride in on horseback with the alarm from Paul Revere. There will be militia demonstrations, colonial needlework, popcorn, raffles, and a scavenger hunt. colonial music, and a patriotic concert featuring the Reading Community Concert Band.

All events are free and open to the public.
