September 25, 1946 – March 20, 2025

Ponny Wood, of Reading, MA, loving wife, mother, and nana, passed away on March 20, 2025, at the age of 78 surrounded by her devoted family.
Ponny was born September 25, 1946 to the late Raymond and Christine Zwicker. Ponny was a graduate of Reading Memorial High School, class of 1965. Following graduation, she attended the Modern School of Fashion Design in Boston. She married her husband, Donald Wood, whom she met at Swains Lake in Barrington, NH. Ponny and Donny were married for 57 years and had two children Michael and Jennifer. Ponny was a proud wife, mother, and homemaker. Ponny and Donny were longtime members of the First Congregational Church and lived in their beloved Reading for 75 years.
Ponny enjoyed spending quality time with family, socializing with her many friends, traveling, camping, cruising, and playing games. She had a creative soul and enjoyed arts and crafts, baking, sewing, embroidery and tole painting (a passion she shared with her mother). Ponny loved to share these passions with others. She taught for Creative Arts for Kids, taught tole painting at Jones Craft Store and sewing at Fabric Town.
Her true passion was spending time with her five grandchildren, whether catching frogs or building sand castles at Sebago Lake, playing games, or sharing her vast knowledge of flora and fauna at Plum Island and the Ipswich Wildlife Sanctuary. Everyday with nana was sure to be filled with fun, adventure and making memories.
Point Sebago in Casco, Maine, Meadowmere Resort in Ogunquit, the North Shore Music Theater, and Florida held a special place in her heart, and she shared many fond memories with family and friends.
We ask that you remember her not how she died but how she lived. Her kindness, infectious natural curiosity, and sense of fun and adventure was contagious to all that had the pleasure of knowing her.
Her generous heart, beautiful smile, unforgettable laugh, and boundless energy will surely be missed.
Ponny is survived by her husband Donald Wood (Retired Reading Fire Chief), son Michael (Tracy) Wood, daughter Jennifer (William) Guarino, and 5 cherished grandchildren Brianna, Devin, and Bryce, LeConti, Abigayl, and Aiden Wood. She is also survived by her brother Michael (Marianne) Zwicker, a niece, nephews, and many longtime friends.
Ponny was a longtime volunteer, and financial supporter of Camp Sunshine, a camp for children with life threatening illnesses and their families, If you would like to make a donation in Ponny’s name in lieu of flowers you may do so at www.campsunshine.org
