We’ve lived next door to Karen Rose-Gillis for 27 years and cannot say enough about what a thoughtful, caring person she is—and how lucky we are that she’s willing to serve on Reading’s Select Board. Please join us in voting for her on or before April 8.
Karen did not enter this race with an axe to grind. You can take it at face value when she says she simply wants to serve our Town and listen to all sides—in her calm and open-minded way—before making decisions. She is also a rigorous thinker who will do the necessary research.
She’s a long-time town resident and homeowner with first-hand experience and perspectives on many key Town topics.
Her elderly mother lives with her, and they both understand the need to expand senior services and facilities while also avoiding hitting seniors and other property owners with excessively high taxes.
She served on the recent Parking Committee and understands the need to keep working on sensible regulation to deter all-day parking in downtown spaces, because this frees up spaces for businesses and customers at little cost to the Town. She will have insight into options for tweaking policy in this area. She also understands impacts, because parking and traffic issues associated with downtown growth show up on our block near the town center.
Rezoning is not an abstract issue for her. One of the “MBTA communities” concepts would have allowed six to eight units on many single-family lots on our residential block, while leaving nearby blocks untouched. Thankfully, that configuration did not come to pass. But when residents have concerns about how Town zoning plans or state policies might affect them, you can count on her to listen.
Again, please join us in voting for Karen Rose-Gillis for Reading Select Board on or before April 8.
