BOSTON – Representative Richard Haggerty (D-Woburn) joined members of the Joint Committee on Housing and leadership of the Massachusetts State House this previous week in recognizing one of the state’s most effective and impactful housing programs: the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program.
Representative Haggerty, recently appointed Chair of the Joint Committee on Housing, spoke to a packed Church on the Hill alongside Senate co-chair of the Joint Committee on Housing Julian Cyr (D-Cape and Islands), Representative Adrian Madaro (D-Boston), Senate Assistant Majority Leader Joan Lovely (D-Salem) and Senator Lydia Edwards (D-Boston), as a handful of state officials joined housing advocates and residents to recognize the Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program, a state program offering rental assistance to low-income residents across the Commonwealth.
“It is wonderful to join with my colleagues on Beacon Hill to recognize this critical program that keeps thousands of low-income residents across the Commonwealth safely housed,” Representative Haggerty said, receiving one of the hundreds of cookies handed out on Beacon Hill. “I look forward to continuing to hear from advocates and experts on how we can improve this voucher program and make sure it continues to serve our citizens.”
The Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program (MRVP) is a state-funded voucher that provides rental assistance to over 11,000 low-income families, individuals with disability and elderly in need. The voucher covers at least 30 percent of rent for residents with incomes at-or-below the 80 percent area median income.
