Dear Editor and Reading residents,
Reading’s annual local election is on April 8th this year. Historically, voter participation in local elections has hovered somewhere around 20-25 percent, an unfortunately low number. Together for Reading’s (TfR) primary objective is increasing community engagement at the local level. We are residents whose goal is to see more residents running for local office, volunteering for local committees, and voting locally. We believe greater participation will result in a better Reading for the entire community, from toddlers to seniors and from Main Street shops to neighborhood blocks.
We feel the best way to engage in local politics and community affairs is with transparency and accountability, and we are not associated with any anonymous political websites or mailing lists. As a registered political action committee (PAC), TfR is required to designate a Chair and Treasurer and submit all financial records to the state for public availability. This ensures we are in compliance with campaign finance laws when we endorse local candidates. We are most active during our local election season.
Please visit our website, togetherforreading.com, to see what we’re all about and review our 2025 endorsements. Determining endorsements is not always easy; sometimes difficult decisions need to be made. We at TfR extend our appreciation and thanks to EVERYONE who chooses to run for local office and we encourage voters to use multiple resources, such as candidate and local websites, when researching candidates and issues. Most importantly, please make a plan to vote on or before Election Day, April 8, and encourage your Reading family and friends to vote, too. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Carolyn Johnson
Chair, Together for Reading
