Obituary: John C. Adams, 77

July 23, 1947 – February 21, 2025

John C. Adams, a lifelong resident of Reading, passed away suddenly at his home on February 21, 2025. He was 77 years of age.

John was born in Winchester, Massachusetts, on July 23, 1947, the son of the late Robert W. and Barbara C. (Buck) Adams. John graduated from Reading Memorial High School class of 1965 and attended Keene State College before deciding to serve his country and enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps and serve during the Vietnam War. After serving in the Marine Corps, he also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves for more than 30 years.

John was a man of many interests and most proud to be a Marine. In his younger days, he was with his family at their camp in Maine. He became an excellent swimmer and water skier developing his strong love for the water and boating. Later in retirement from Verizon, some of his happiest moments were spent there for the annual reunion with the boys.

He loved cars and owned several Corvettes, Broncos, Mustangs and perhaps his favorite, a Mercedes roadster. He was fanatical about taking good care of all of them. The same can be said for his home, always starting new home improvement projects. He was also very passionate about sailing in the Caribbean and spent much quality time there with his best friends Dean and Marcia Gibbons, always ready to go on their next excursion together. John was a very generous and compassionate person. He always made sure his friends and family were taken care of and lacked for nothing. He will be remembered well by his family and friends, quick witted with the bad jokes and even worse puns.

John is survived by his brother, Robert C. Adams and his wife Susan of Meredith, New Hampshire and he adored their children Sarah Adams-Tooley and her husband Jamison and their two children Finnegan and Penelope and Emily Adams Dickson and her husband Ryan and their two children Briar and Leland all of Laconia, New Hampshire.

A visitation will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) in Reading on Friday, February 28, from 10am-12pm followed by a graveside service with military honors at Charles Lawn Cemetery, Charles St. in Reading at 12:30pm.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project PO Box 758517 Topeka KS 66675  https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org

The family would like to express our sincere thanks to his good friend Rich McNaney, the VA and the home health workers that cared for John so faithfully.
