October 17, 1943 – February 14, 2025

Paul Hurley, 81, of San Diego, CA, formerly of Reading, MA, passed away peacefully on February 14th, 2025, in San Diego after a lengthy illness. Paul was born on October 17th, 1943, in Arlington, MA, the son of the late Patrick and Catherine (Franklin) Hurley, who had each immigrated from Ireland.
Mr. Hurley is survived by his four children and their spouses, Kristine Holske of Attleboro, MA, Brian of San Diego (Rita), Jeffrey of San Diego, CA (Megan) and Keith of Reading, MA (Tara), and nine grandchildren: Nicholas Apablasa of San Diego, CA, Jessica Gershner of Whitehouse Station, NJ, Tyler Holske of Mansfield, MA, Ryan Holske of Attleboro, MA, Max Hurley of San Diego, CA, Stella Hurley of San Diego, CA, Dane Holske of Attleboro, MA, Cal Hurley of Reading, MA and Kendal Hurley of Reading, MA. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Emma, Madeline and Wesley Gershner and Madison Holske. He also leaves his former wife, Kathryn, two brothers, Bill of Hyannis and Jim of Bedford, and many nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his infant daughter Jill Hurley and brothers Thomas, Patrick (Joe) and George.
After graduating from Matignon High School in 1961, Mr. Hurley attended Boston State College and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly lived by the Marine Corps motto “Semper Fi.” After a career with IBM, heading their typewriter rental division, and employment with Somerville Hospital, Paul retired to San Diego, CA and spent his retirement years working part-time in his son’s business.
Paul was most proud of his family. His favorite moments were spent with his children and grandchildren, especially family vacations when everyone could get together. He fondly remembered summer vacations in Hampton Beach NH, Florida, and Montana.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 7th at Post 1917 at 136 Haven Street in Reading, MA from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. Family and friends are cordially invited to join the Hurley family for dinner.
