Obituary: Eleanor I. (Green) Differ, 85

September 15, 1939 — January 17, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor I. (Green) Differ of Reading, Massachusetts, at age 85. She died peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, January 17, 2025.

Born on September 15, 1939, in Medford, MA, she is the loving daughter of the late Ronald and Margaret (Reidy) Green of Somerville, MA, and sister of the late Marjorie (Green) McKenzie of Stoneham, MA. She met the love of her life and beloved husband of 57 years, the late David T. Differ, in 1955. Eleanor dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband and children.

Eleanor’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends. Eleanor wore many hats throughout her days but “Domestic Goddess” was the one in which she shined the most. To pass the time, she loved traveling, sewing, visiting casinos, watching sci-fi and crime shows, sports, and gnome-making. Most importantly, her love for hosting family gatherings, especially during the holidays, will be missed terribly.

She is the devoted mother of Thomas Differ, Christine Nicholson and her husband Daniel, Brian Differ, Michele Gardner and her husband William. She is the cherished grandmother of Matthew Nicholson and wife Ashley, Michael Differ, Molly Decker and husband Christopher, Daniel Differ, David Gardner, as well as the great-grandmother of Noah Nicholson. Eleanor is a devoted aunt, cousin, and loving friend to many who will deeply miss her.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Eleanor’s family on Thursday, January 23, from 4-7 PM, at the Doherty – Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street in Reading, MA. Parking attendants and an elevator are available. A funeral will be held from the Doherty–Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street, Reading, MA, on Friday, January 24 at 9:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass celebrating Eleanor’s eternal life at Saint Agnes Church, 186 Woburn Street, Reading, Massachusetts, at 10:30 AM. Interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford, Massachusetts
