Obituary: Lorna D. Knapp, 94

August 24, 1930 – January 3, 2025

Lorna D. (Carter) Knapp, of Peabody for nine years, formerly a resident of Reading from 1956-2011, passed away on January 3, 2025, at Brooksby Village in Peabody. She was 94 years of age. Lorna was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 24, 1930, the daughter of the late James R. and Grace M. (Dixon) Carter.

 Lorna was raised and educated in Boston. She attended Mount Holyoke College for one year, then attended Catherine Gibbs Secretarial school in order to help support her family. She graduated from Northeastern University with a BS in Sociology in 1970 and received her Master’s degree from the Boston University School of Social Work. She worked for 27 years in Geriatric Social Work for Eastern Middlesex Mental Health at Cambridge Hospital, retiring in 1999. Lorna was a member of the First Congregational Church in Reading for more than 60 years, where she served as a Deacon. She also served as a board member at Peter Sanborn Place in Reading for several years.

Lorna was the beloved wife of the late Arthur E. Knapp. Devoted mother of Steven C. and Darlene Knapp of Andover, Amy Palmer of Reading, Andrea and Rob Wilger of San Jose, CA and Amanda and Stephen Marasca of Derry NH. Lorna was the loving grandmother of 7 and loving great grandmother of 3. She is also survived by her brother Dr James and Susan Carter of York, Maine.

Funeral services and burial for Lorna will be private and there are no visiting hours.
