Reading Residents Invited to ‘Caregiver Red Carpet’

MVES Event Features VR, Music, 7News Reporter as MC, and More

Reading, MA — Families from Reading and surrounding communities participated in a Virtual Reality program this summer at Mystic Valley Elder Services (MVES). The VR program was designed for caregivers and their loved ones. They had a chance to “travel” around the world, but perhaps more exciting, they were able to revisit beloved spots such as the house they grew up in or the church where they were married. This program was especially moving for those with memory loss such as dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.

A demonstration of this Virtual Reality technology will be featured at an upcoming “Caregiver Red Carpet” that MVES will host on Thursday, November 14, from 12-4 p.m., at Anthony’s of Malden, 105 Canal St. There will also be a showcase of vendors who are innovating ways to assist caregivers and their loved ones, live music by the Sandi BBand, a live DJ and dance floor, raffles, giveaways, food and more. Lisa Gresci, 7News-WHDH Reporter, will be Master of Ceremonies for this event.

Admission is free, but RSVP is requested by October 31. Guests must be registered to be eligible to win raffles at the event. To sign up, visit www.mves.org/caregiver-red-carpet. Questions can be directed to 781-388-4882 or jshacklewood@mves.org.

Family caregivers, with or without the loved one they care for, are invited. There will be special accommodations for families that need it. Also invited are healthcare or social workers in this field, and anyone else with an interest in caregiving.
