READING — Chief David Clark reports that the Reading Police Department arrested and charged a Roxbury man with Breaking and Entering and Attempt to Commit a Crime earlier this month.
GENO ABERNATHY, AGE 22, of ROXBURY was arrested and charged with:
Breaking and Entering with Intent to Commit a Larceny or Felony
Attempt to Commit a Crime
On Thursday, Aug. 8, officers responded to the area of 51 Putnam Road for reports of a man who appeared to be looking into cars.
Upon arrival to the scene, it was determined that an individual unknown to residents of the neighborhood had been seen looking into and entering vehicles.
One neighbor reported that several items were missing from the center console of their vehicle.
Officers were able to get a description of the suspect, and after a subsequent investigation, police identified the suspect as ABERNATHY.
Officer’s uncovered items consistent with what was missing from the vehicle during a subsequent search of ABERNATHY’s person.
ABERNATHY was arrested without incident.
“We would not have been able to make an arrest as quickly as we did without the community’s help in calling this incident in and providing such thorough descriptions of the subject,” said Chief Clark. “If the community sees something suspicious, I urge them to report it.”
ABERNATHY was arraigned on Aug. 9 in Woburn District Court.
All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
