Reading, MA — Residents and businesses on Haven Street are welcoming a new neighbor as Post 1917 has opened its doors to the public. The restaurant, which chef Jason Carron referred to as “a twist of a classic and modern steakhouse,” is located in the former post office building as part of the Postmark Square development.

Carron, who, according to Post 1917’s website, “has revolutionized the New England restaurant community,” has over two decades of restaurant experience. He wanted to open a business in Reading partly due to his wife’s family history in town and the friendly nature of its residents. “It has been great to be welcomed in the town like this,” Carron commented. He is also grateful for the support he has had from staff in Town Hall and the Fire Department.

“I’m very lucky to be in Reading,” Carron continued.

Carron loved the building as soon as he entered it, as he envisioned how the space could look when completed. He pointed out that several architectural features of the building have been preserved, including the exposed brick and the front foyer arches, which are so familiar to generations of Readingites who remember the post office fondly.

“We want people to feel the warmth about what the historic building brings,” Carron shared.

Bacon with Bourbon Glaze, Luxardo Smash
Chopped Salad – Soppressata, Cucumbers, Heirloom Tomatoes, Red Onion, Pecorino, Celery, Blue Cheese Vinaigrette
Chicken Parmesan – Pan Fried, House Made Marinara
Long Bone – Available AuPoirve/Oscar/Kona Crust and optional toppings: Roasted Marrow Butter, Blue Cheese Butter or Lobster

According to Carron, patrons of the new restaurant can expect USDA prime beef options with craft cocktails that will “blow you out of this world.” His favorite menu items include steak tartare, the New York strip, a mushroom risotto, and the chicken parmesan, which Carron described as “huge.”

Carron was quick to point out that a significant number of the items on the menu are gluten-free. He also highlighted the extensive wine selection that complements his favorite Steakhouse Martini and Post Cosmo cocktails.

“In the restaurant business, you are throwing a party every night, and we want to throw the best parties we can,” Carron noted. “I want you to come back multiple times and enjoy.”

Carron is looking forward to warmer weather when an outdoor bar is planned for the patio space. Although Post 1917 is open now, a grand opening celebration is being prepared for Memorial Day weekend. In the future, Carron intends to create a private dining area and eventually divide the space between the dining room and the lounge area.
