Obituary: Lawrence G. Morris, 89

April 2, 1935 – April 28, 2024

Lawrence G. Morris, a resident of Reading for 47 years, passed away surrounded by his family on April 28, 2024, at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington.  

He was born and raised in Dorchester and Brighton, Massachusetts, and was the son of the late Francis and Theresa A. (McCann) Morris. He graduated from Brighton High in 1953 and proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1955-1957 as a Seabee. He always spoke fondly of the time he was stationed in Nantucket MA. He graduated from Boston College in 1967 and taught high school for several years. He later left teaching and eventually went on to work for Bell Atlantic where he retired in 1998. His favorite part of retirement was traveling the world with his wife and son Larry. He enjoyed watching boxing and was an avid Boston sports fan, especially the Boston Bruins. He was a season ticket holder for several years in the 60s and 70s. He will be remembered most for his strong Catholic faith and love for his family 

Lawrence was the beloved husband of 52 wonderful years to the late Mary F. (Clinton) Morris. He was the devoted father of Lawrence P. Morris, Brian C. Morris and Kristen N. McGuinness and her husband Richard. Loving grandfather of Brittany, Ryan, Kaitlyn and Kevin and cherished brother of the late Kevin Morris. He is also survived by his longtime dear friend Thomas Sweeney. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 2, at St. Joseph’s Church, 173 Albion St. in Wakefield, at 10:00am.  Burial is private at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden and there are no visiting hours.  

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Lawrence’s memory to the Pine Street Inn 444 Harrison Ave. Boston, MA 02118.
