Helen M. (Gibbons) Morrison, a resident of Reading for 62 years, passed away at her son’s home in Providence, Rhode Island, on April 23, 2024. She was 94 years of age.
Helen was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on February 4, 1930, the daughter of William and Mary (Watkins) Gibbons. She graduated from Somerville High in 1948.
Helen raised her family in Reading, MA, and worked for the Reading Chronicle for many years. She loved to travel, and Helen went to Europe, cruised through the Panama Canal, walked the glaciers of Alaska, and took rides in hot air balloons and glider planes. She and her friends loved to go out dancing on Friday and Saturday nights. Helen never turned down a conversation and made so many friends through the years and decades. She loved to entertain and invited everyone into her life. She brought out the best in people. Most of all, she liked being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Helen was the beloved wife of the late John C. Morrison. Devoted father of Thomas J. Morrison of Sandown, NH, Mark J. Morrison and his wife Kathleen of Providence, RI; Billy K. Morrison and his wife Susan of Ogdensburg, NJ; and the late Myla A. Martin and mother-in-law of the late Frank Martin of Phoenix, AZ. Cherished sister of James W. Gibbons and his wife Claire of Arlington and the late Frances R. Mainini and Mary Berck. Loving grandmother of Sarah, Michael, Noah, Christopher, Gabriel, and Josiah and loving great-grandmother of Jack, Peter, Elijah, Theo, and Sylvia.
Visiting hours will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley, and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.), Reading, MA, on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St., Reading, MA, on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.
