Special Election to be held May 14, 2024
Reading, MA — The Town will have a special election on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, to fill the Select Board vacancy. Nomination papers are now available from the Town Clerk for those interested in running. Papers must be returned to the Town Clerk’s office by 5 PM on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
The vacancy was created when Select Board member Jackie McCarthy resigned on February 6th. The Select Board is composed of five members who are elected for overlapping three-year terms. As specified in the Reading Home Rule Charter, they are the Chief Elected Officers of the Town. The Select Board appoints a Town Manager who is responsible for the daily management of the Town, whose powers are specified in the Reading Home Rule Charter. The Select Board also appoints the Town Accountant and Town Counsel.
