Obituary: Edith Georgina Freeman, 101

November 19, 1922 – November 30, 2023

Edith Georgina Freeman, a lifelong resident of Reading, passed away in her home on November 30, 2023. She was 101 years of age. Edith was born in Reading on November 19, 1922 the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Martin) Arsenault.

Edith attended Reading schools and was a graduate of Reading High School class of 1940. In November of 1947 Edie married Tom and together they raised their 4 children. Many Saturday evenings were spent with friends at their Social Club in Wakefield. Edie belonged to several card groups and loved playing cards. She was also an avid antique hunter. She and Tom spent many winters in Florida and enjoyed summers with the family on Newfound Lake. She loved reading and traveling with friends and family. She was a very special lady and will be missed by many.

Edith is the beloved wife of the late Thomas H. Freeman, Sr. Devoted mother of Jeanne M. Freeman of Reading and her daughter Leigh Freeman, Kathleen A. Laroussi and her husband Fouad of Manchester NH and their children Alisha Laroussi, Deana Pratt, Rashid Laroussi and their children, Joan M. Freeman of Reading and Thomas H. Freeman, Jr and his partner Patty McGoldrick of Reading and her children Lauren Morse, Mark and Greg Storella and their children. She is the sister of Roy Arsenault, the late Lillian Maillett, Sister Mary Carl, and Carl Arsenault and she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Edith’s funeral will be held from the Douglass, Edgerley, and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Wednesday, December 6 at 9:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. Reading at 10:30 am. Burial will follow at Forest Glen Cemetery in Reading. Funeral home visiting hours will be Tuesday, December 5, from 4-8 pm.
