Meadow Brook’s Weekend for a Cure

Reading, MA — Over the weekend of July 21 – 23, Meadow Brook Golf Club hosted its 12th Weekend for a Cure in support of the ESSCO-MGH Breast Cancer Research Fund, bringing in a record $71,500! Since the tournament’s inception in 2010, Meadow Brook has donated over $215,000 in support of innovative research at ESSCO.

The weekend consisted of tennis and pickleball tournaments, a swimming lap-a-thon, golf tournament, and a celebration Gala. Fifty-one sponsors, including members, friends, and businesses associated with the club and the surrounding Reading, MA community, saw their messages and logos displayed around the course, and an anonymous donor volunteered a $10,000 match for all funds raised through sponsorship.

The weekend was capped off with a gala dinner which was attended by 120 members and their
guests. The Gala fun included a raffle and silent and live auctions, with items donated by members and local businesses, and entertainment provided by famous Boston comedian Tony V. Participants sipped on the tournament’s signature beverages, available throughout July with a portion of the proceeds going to fundraising.

The weekend was member-organized with the extraordinary support of Head Pro, Kevin Franey and his team and Club Manager Ron Rice and his team. The Weekend for a Cure is a special event each year for Meadow Brook, and its continued success is due to the support of all involved. The tournament committee would like to thank all who participated, volunteered their time, and contributed their generous financial support!

Meadow Brook Golf Club has been a member of the Reading community since 1898. A family-oriented club, Meadow Brook offers a full slate of activities, including golf, swimming, and tennis, all managed by a professional staff.

The ESSCO-MGH Breast Cancer Research Fund was established in 1994 with the goal of raising $5 million for an endowment that would support breast cancer research at MGH in perpetuity. The ESSCO-MGH Breast Cancer Research Fund is a zero-overhead organization. Every dollar raised goes directly to cancer research instead of administrative or fundraising purposes.
