Haverhill Line Maintenance to Affect Reading Commuters

Shuttle Service to Anderson Will be Available

Reading, MA — On September 9 through November 5, buses will replace regular train service between Reading & Oak Grove on the Haverhill Line. Trains will make regular stops between Haverhill & Ballardvale, stop at Anderson/Woburn on the Lowell Line & operate express to North Station. 

The shuttle service between Reading and Oak Grove will make stops in Wakefield, Greenwood, Melrose Highlands, Melrose Cedar Park, Wyoming Hill, and Oak Grove. Train service for passengers between Ballardvale and Haverhill will be re-routed along the Lowell Line after Ballardvale, making one additional stop at Anderson/Woburn station then running express to North Station.

Bus shuttles will also provide service between Reading and Anderson/Woburn for connection with Lowell Line and Haverhill Line trains. There will be no service at North Wilmington Station. Passengers may consider boarding Lowell Line trains at Wilmington (1.9 mi away). At Oak Grove and Malden Center, passengers can make a connection with the Orange Line. A dedicated diversion schedule will be in effect. A bus diversion will be in effect. Buses will be accessible, but bikes will not be allowed on board.

Passengers between Reading and Malden Center can also consider MBTA Bus #137 as an alternate travel option. This diversion will allow for ATC implementation work as part of the Commuter Rail Safety and Resiliency Program.

As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, the MBTA is renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
