Joan (Woodward) Boyd, who lived in Reading with her husband of almost 70 years, Kenneth Boyd, passed away at her home on August 3, 2023. She was 91 years of age.
Joan was born in York, Maine, on December 18, 1931, the daughter of the late Fred and Alice (Littlefield) Woodward. Joan grew up in Nashua, NH, and Wakefield, MA. Joan was a graduate of Wakefield High School. Joan worked with her father for many years at Woodward and Miller Printers. Joan was known for her artistic talent and enjoyed taking painting classes with friends. She created many wonderful pieces of art for family and friends and decorated her much-loved home with her art as well. Joan was blessed to find a true soul and life mate in her husband Ken. She and Ken loved to cruise, tour and travel with friends. Joan loved her home, and everyone felt welcome there. But most of all, family meant the world to Joan. When she would enthusiastically share stories about her family, she would radiate happiness and pride.
Joan was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth W. Boyd. Devoted mother of Deborah Atlas and her husband Jeffry of Burlington, Lisa Hall and her husband Wayne of Derry, NH, Nancy Fortini and her husband Alfred of Stoneham, and Jennifer Folan and her husband John of Carna, Ireland. Loving grandmother of Daniel Hall, and his wife Jocelyn Foulke, Ryan Hall and his wife Rachel, Michael Atlas and his wife Marina, Joel Atlas and his wife Michelle, Nicole Lentine, Andrew Lentine and his wife Heather, and Ailish, Patrick, and Keira Folan. Loving great-grandmother of Calvin and Cecelia Hall, Isaac Lentine, Scarlett Atlas, and Rosalina Atlas. Cherished sister of the late Barbara Christie and Charles Woodward. She also leaves a sister-in-law Irene Woodward, and many loved nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Thursday, August 10 from 4:00-7:00 PM. A funeral home service will be held on Wednesday, August 11 at 11AM. Burial will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
