Richard N. Martin, an esteemed resident of Manchester, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2023, at the age of 81, surrounded by his loving family, following a valiant battle with a long illness.
Born on June 18, 1942, in Newton, MA, Richard was the cherished son of Herman and Marguerite (McCabe) Martin. He spent his formative years in Reading, MA, and embarked on a journey that took him to various corners of the United States before finally settling in New Hampshire with his beloved family in 1982.
Richard’s academic pursuits led him to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Merrimack College, which laid the foundation for his successful career. Additionally, he served in the Army National Guard for three years during his time in Massachusetts.
Devoting over 35 years to the field of accounting, Richard became a skilled accountant and eventually established his own business, the Williams Group. Outside of work, he found solace in fishing and running, passions that brought him immense joy. Above all, he treasured the moments spent with his family, cherishing their company dearly.
Richard was preceded in death by his loving parents and three siblings. He leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Nancy L. (Davis) Martin of Manchester. He also leaves behind his two children, J. Robert Martin and Nicole L. Gill, along with her husband, John, all of Manchester. Richard’s memory will continue to be cherished by his four grandchildren, Nathaniel and Sarah Martin, and Emily and Lauren Gill. He is also survived by his sister, Janette O’Brien of Ohio, and a multitude of cousins, nieces, and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
A celebration of Richard’s remarkable life will be held at a later date, allowing loved ones to gather and pay tribute to his enduring spirit. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation at michaeljfox.org, supporting a cause close to Richard’s heart.
