Dear friends and neighbors,
Three years ago, Reading elected Carlo Bacci with the highest number of votes in a competitive election to the Select Board. Barely three weeks later, Carlo was faced with challenges that few of us foresaw as 2020 began. Throughout that year, Carlo performed admirably as a voice of pragmatism in many difficult discussions and Reading has weathered those tough times successfully. Today it remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Now, Reading has the choice to re-elect him to the Select Board. As a voice for all of Reading, from its seniors, first-responders, business owners, and the thousands who call this town home, Carlo listens to all concerns to help make Reading the best it can be in a financially responsible manner. Whether they are kitchen table issues such as minimizing the increases to water and sewer rates, large projects such as Symonds Way recreation or the upcoming Killam renovation, or long term issues such as housing and development, Carlo will continue to work with his fellow Select Board members towards sensible solutions.
Running this year is another candidate who shares Carlo’s passion for public service and dedication to hearing the interests of all residents. Melissa Murphy has been a Reading resident for over 15 years and in that time has contributed countless volunteer hours to a variety of causes. Already a member of Town Meeting, she stands ready to take the next step and serve the town on its highest board. If elected, Melissa will join Carlo as another voice of pragmatism.
By ensuring that Reading reaches fiscally responsible solutions, she will help ensure that our resources get utilized with maximum efficiency.
Reading has remained a great place to live after everything over the last three years, but challenges remain. Sustainability is increasingly addressed at the local level amidst a changing climate. Housing and development are twin issues familiar in most Greater Boston communities Reading being no exception. And with uncertain economic times ahead it is important that our town government acts with financial prudence as its foremost concern. With their leadership on the Board, they will do the best they can to create solutions which avoid adding unnecessary costs onto both our residents and businesses.
On April 4th, please join me in voting for Carlo Bacci and Melissa Murphy for the Select Board because your concerns are their first concerns.
Sincerely,
Nathan Giacalone Orchard Park Drive
