Obituary: Dorothy M. Shea, 99

Dorothy Madeline (Dot) Shea, 99, of Peabody, formerly of Yarmouth and Reading, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Somerville, MA, the daughter of the late William and Madeline Shea. Beloved wife of the late Robert T. (Bob) Shea, her husband of 69 years, and sister of the late William Shea.

Survived by son Robert Shea and his wife Brooks of California, daughter Nancy Goldstein and her husband Matt of Danvers and granddaughters Alexa Ayoub of Beverly and Taylor Ayoub Griffen and her husband Sean of Danvers.

Following graduation from Cambridge High & Latin School in Cambridge, Dot worked for Eastern Airlines followed by a long and successful career as a realtor in the greater Reading Massachusetts area. Dot then took the position as Executive Officer of The Eastern Middlesex Board of Realtors. Dot’s leadership while at the Board was acknowledged when, upon retiring from the Board in 1995, Dot was honored by the Board with the renaming of the annual Realtor of the Year award as the Dorothy M. Shea Award.

A resident of Reading for more than 30 years, Dot enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, and knitting. The family vacationed on Cape Cod and Bob and Dot retired to Yarmouth and enjoyed spending weekends with their granddaughters there. In addition to enjoying retirement on the Cape, Bob and Dot traveled extensively, often accompanied by family and friends. They visited Greece, Italy, Spain, The Caribbean, Mexico, Latin America, Canada, and California. Ocean cruises were a particular favorite. Despite suffering from low vision late in her life, Dot continued with an active lifestyle.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 6th at 10:00 am at the St. Mary of the Annunciation Church 24 Conant St. Danvers, MA.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours are Sunday, March 5th from 2-4 pm at the O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St, (Rte. 62) Danvers MA. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA where her husband Bob is laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dot’s memory to the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown MA.
