Reading, MA – Select Board Vice Chair Karen Herrick recently attended the Massachusetts Legislature’s Zero Waste Caucus Public Policy Forum, held February 16th in Lexington, by invitation of State Senator Jason Lewis. US Congresswoman Katherine Clark was the keynote speaker. She discussed federal efforts to reduce plastics. Herrick stated that Reading is “on par with other forward-thinking communities like Lexington” in having voted overwhelmingly to ban polystyrene containers at last Town Meeting.

Herrick has been involved in solid waste management in Reading for decades, since she was appointed to an ad-hoc solid waste committee in 2003, at the urging of (the late) long-time Select Board member Camille Anthony.
