INVITATION FOR BIDS “Downtown Water Main Improvements” Contract 22-30

Sealed bids for the Downtown Water Main Improvements Project will be received at the Town Hall, Town Clerk’s office, 16 Lowell Street, Reading, MA 01867 until 1:00 p.m. prevailing time, on June 28, 2022 at which time and place said bids will be publicly opened and read aloud.

The scope of work includes the replacement, cleaning and lining, and abandonment of approximately 8,600 linear-feet of water main, replacement of non-copper water services, replacement of hydrants and gate valves, and all other appurtenant work within the project limits as shown on the contract drawings. Approximately 65 linear feet of 12-inch ductile iron water main will be jacked beneath the Woburn Street railroad crossing in a 42-inch steel casing underneath the existing at-grade MBTA Haverhill Commuter Railroad track. 

Approximately 190 and 160 linear feet of 12-inch ductile iron water main will be installed in the Town-owned easement at 369 Main Street and at the intersection of Main and Ash Streets, respectively, via open-trench methods in areas within the MBTA’s zone-of-influence.

All bids for this project are subject to applicable bidding laws of Massachusetts, including G.L. C. 30, Section 39M and 149, Section 26 to 27H.

The Town of Reading reserves the right to reject any and all Proposals, or to award or not to award the contract for any reason the Town Manager determines to be in the Town’s and/or the public’s best interest.
