Florence was born in Malden in 1921, but has been a resident of Reading for the last 75 years. She lived in the home she shared with her husband Bill, a Reading native, until her death. “Flossie” was a pillar of the community and an active resident of the town for her entire adult life. She retired from her position in the finance department of the Town of Reading in 1992 after 31 years of service. During that time there were no departments or town employees that hadn’t benefited from her knowledge, her good humor, or her thoughtfulness. As a retiree, Flossie continued to devote her newly found free time to various town organizations. She was a regular volunteer at the polling stations, was active with the Reading Food Pantry and was a devoted congregant of the Old South United Methodist Church. She continued to serve the community that she cherished well into her 80s and was well known as one of the first people to lend a helping hand. Flossie was a person of high moral character who had an incredible work ethic. She truly embodied the spirit of the Greatest Generation. She conducted her affairs with integrity and humility and encouraged those around her to do the same. She was a treasure and will be dearly missed by the many lives that were touched by her enduring presence.

The funeral service and burial for Florence will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the Reading Food Pantry, 6 Salem St., Reading, MA, 01867.
