Obituary: Michael Franzosa, 91

March 4, 1930 – February 18, 2020

Of Londonderry, NH (formerly of Mashpee, Reading, and Charlestown, MA) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 18, 2022 at the age of 91. Michael was born in Boston on March 4, 1930, to parents Maria and Angelo Franzosa; he had five siblings, Frank, Annette, Mary, Dominic, and Patrick.

Michael was a devoted, loving father and grandfather. Former husband of Shirley Franzosa for 42 years. He is survived by his 3 daughters, Simone Sartell and husband Edward Sartell, Alisa DeCelle and husband Robert DeCelle, Kimberly Cataldo, and husband mark Cataldo. Grandchildren, Danielle Franzosa, Evan Sartell, Alex Sartell and Isabella Cataldo. As well as his two surviving siblings, Dominic and Patrick Franzosa, along with many nieces/nephews, and grandnieces/nephews.

Michael graduated cum laude from Boston University in 1960. He went on to work as a physicist at GeoPhysics Corporation of America located in Bedford, MA from 1960 to 1965 where he served with the DASA Scientific Organization 1962 Pacific Nuclear Test Series, Operation Dominic. In 1966 he went on to teach Physics for 30 years at Revere Public High School. He was an advisor to the Revere High School Competition Team of the North Shore Science League competing in the fields of physics, chemistry, and biology.

From 1970 to 1972 Michael was elected vice President to the Board of Directors of the John F. Kennedy Family Service Center Inc. in Charlestown, MA.

Michael’s biggest joys in life were family, friends, laughter, reading, teaching, food, wine and sunshine. He will be deeply missed.

A Mass will be held at Saint Agnes Parish, 187 Woburn Street, Reading, MA on May 21st at 3 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life ceremony.
