Obituary: Judith A. (Hurrell) Covino, 78

November 5, 1943 – April 10, 2022

Judith A. (Hurrell) Covino, of Reading, died Sunday, April 10, 2022, in The Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 78.

She was born on November 5, 1943, in Boston a daughter of the late Philip R. And Mafalda (Zofolli). Raised in Roxbury and later Wakefield she was a graduate of Nazareth Academy with the class of 1961 and then earned her nursing degree from the Catherine Labouré School of Nursing graduating in 1964.

She married Anthony M. Covino on June 25, 1966, in her home parish of Saint Joseph’s in Wakefield, and they have been residents of Reading for over 55 years.

After staying at home to raise her daughters, which was her real love, she then enjoyed a long career at Reading Internal Medicine where her empathy and care for the patients was evident and genuine. She cherished her work and friendships that ensued from her career as a nurse.

Judy enjoyed following Boston College sports aside her husband. She enjoyed coffee with her close friends and was active in St. Agnes Parish in Reading where she served as a lector and an active volunteer with various activities.

In addition to her husband of 55 years, Tony, she leaves her daughters, Elizabeth M. Kleinbauer, and her husband, Corey and Barbara A. Covino. Devoted grandmother of Marissa, Kayla, Elise, Benjamin, Emily, and Isabelle. Caring sister of Philip Hurrell and his wife, Jean; sister-in-law of Lucille ‘Lucy’ Ristaino (late Joseph) and the late Dolores Covino; also survived by nieces & nephews.

Funeral from the Doherty-Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 9:30 am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Judith’s Eternal Life in St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn Street, Reading at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Charles Lawn Cemetery, Reading.

Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with the family on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Parking attendants and elevator available.

Judy’s family requests that donations be made in her name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
