Dr. Samantha Montano to Speak at RPL

Reading, MA—We are pleased to welcome Dr. Samantha Montano to the library for a discussion of her recently published book, Disasterology: Dispatches from the Frontlines of the Climate Crisis.

Professor Montano, an emergency response researcher at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, talks about how climate change magnifies disaster, how to prepare for extreme events, and how justice in disaster response is more important than ever. From super storms to the COVID-19 pandemic, Professor Montano will share the latest research on smarter, more equitable responses to large-scale crises. Her personal volunteer experience in Louisiana as part of the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort led her to earn a Ph.D. in Disaster Management, and she now works to understand how we and our government handle all manner of disasters. In light of the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report on climate change impacts and vulnerabilities, this is sure to be an eye-opening and compelling conversation.

Registration is required for this in-person event on Tuesday, March 15 at 7:00pm. The event is generously sponsored by The Friends of the Reading Library.
