Obituary: Donald F. Port, 92

January 5, 1930 – February 2, 2022

Donald F. Port of Reading passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. He is 92 years of age.

Donald was born on Sunday, January 5, 1930, in Somerville, the son of the late Francis Port and Margaret (Mozer) Port. Donald is a warm, kind, and gentle son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who will be truly missed.

Donald exemplified the pursuit of the American dream. His father passed away when he was a young man leaving him in the position of having to help support his mom, who worked as a waitress, and his sister. He eventually joined the USCG where he served as a radioman on a Cutter. Following his enlistment, he pursued a career in business management, first with American Brass in Connecticut, and then with the Gillette Co. in South Boston, Massachusetts. Eventually, he rose to the position of Vice President of Manufacturing, Safety Razor Division.

Donald always considered it his mission to be a solid provider for his family, whether financially, through providing shelter, or just being there to offer support and guidance.

Mission accomplished, Dad. Rest in peace.

Donald is the beloved husband of Barbara (Fuller) Port. He is the devoted father of Glenn Port. The cherished grandfather of Courtney Solomito and her husband David, Donald is the doting great grandfather of Blair Solomito. He is the dear brother of the late Phyllis Iskra and her late husband Frank.
