Select Board to Interview Three Town Manager Finalists on Tuesday

Reading, MA — In its posted agenda for Tuesday, December 7, the Select Board announced the names of the three finalists who will be interviewed for the Town Manager position. Current Town Manager Robert LeLacheur announced his resignation on August 10, to be effective at the end of February.

Anne Landry reported at November 23 Select Board that the Town Manager Screening Committee committee had met three times to review resumes and interview candidates. She also reported being “pleased with the pool” of candidates. For reasons of confidentiality, Landry could not discuss any candidate particulars.

The first interview will be with Patrice Garvin, which will occur at 5:00 pm. Consultant Bernie Lynch reported in the Select Board packet that Garvin had been the Town Manager of Belmont for the past three years. Prior to this, she was the Town Administrator of Shirley for five years and the Executive Assistant to the Groton Town Manager for six years.

Fidel Maltez will be interviewed at 6:00 pm. Maltez has been the DPW Commissioner of Chelsea since 2019 after having served as the Assistant Commissioner for the two years prior. He also was an engineer for the Cintas Corporation for twelve years.

The final interview will be with Jennifer Phillips at 7:00 pm. Phillips is the former city manager of Bothell, WA. She served in that capacity for four years before a mutual agreement with the City Council to part ways. Before this, she served as City Manager in Helena, CA for four years. Previously, she had almost twenty years of municipal experience in California.

All three interviews will be carried live on the RCTV government channel, 22 for Xfinity subscribers and channel 33 for those with Verizon.
