All-Night Parking Ban Returns

The following announcement was posted on the Reading Police Department Facebook page

Last winter while we were in the midst of COVID the Reading Police Department and Department of Public Works tried a pilot program to allow for all night parking (except during snow emergencies) in an effort to help residents during the pandemic.

Unfortunately, the program did not work as well as we hoped. We ended up having to tow a large number of cars during snow emergencies, significantly more than we ever had to before, that were not moved as instructed during snow emergencies.

This tied up valuable resources and caused delays in the DPW’s ability to clear the roadways creating a public safety risk. Therefore beginning November 29, 2021, we will once again enforce the all-night parking ban.

Warnings will be issued for the first week but starting December 6, 2021 citations will be issued. This ban includes all roadways and municipal lots from 1:00 am to 6:00 am. We understand this is an inconvenience to some, however public safety is our priority. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
