Downtown Reading Lunchtime Walking Tour of Downtown Artboxes

Reading, MA — The Town of Reading is pleased to announce an upcoming lunchtime walking tour of downtown Reading and its utility box murals on Wednesday, November 3 from 12-1pm. The downtown loop walk is approximately one mile and will include short stops at each artbox location for viewing and a brief description of the art.

The walk will start at the corner of Main Street and Pleasant Street and head in the direction of Main and Washington Street, High Street, Haven Street, and back to Main Street. We are excited to offer this lunchtime walk in collaboration with Walkable Reading and Reading Historical Commission. All are welcome!

In 2020, the Town of Reading’s Planning and Economic Development Division commissioned seven original pieces of art to encourage foot traffic in downtown Reading and celebrate Reading’s community pride. The artists chosen to have their work featured included: Catherine Johnson, Kim Garrity Matthews, Megan Coram, Ruth Clark, Matt Baynes, Ethan Bennett, and Steve Greco.

The Reading Historical Commission also commissioned four utility boxes that were wrapped by graphic designer Franklin Marval and are also included in this tour.

A virtual map and self-guided tour is also available on the Town of Reading’s mapping portal website.
