Dennis Mark Symes, a resident of Reading, Massachusetts for over 60 years, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2021, surrounded by his family.
The son of Arthur and Julia Symes, Dennis was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts on February 27, 1937. He was a graduate of Stoneham High School, participated in hockey and football graduating in 1956. Dennis attended college in Boston at Wentworth Institute of Technology and graduated in 1959. In 1960, he joined the Sabre, the Army National Guard of Massachusetts, and was honorably discharged in 1967 as First Lieutenant. Dennis worked for Symes Associates as Vice President with his brothers from 1967 until his retirement at age 70.
Dennis enjoyed the outdoors with his family skiing, hiking, and spending lazy days by the river in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He also traveled with his wife around the globe and to Disney World with his family.
He was the beloved husband of Theresa (Keogan) Symes whom he married in 1959. He is survived by his two sons and daughter, Michael (Patty), Shannon (Diane), and Denise, and grandchildren Elton (Shana), Sarah, Abigail, Tucker, and Jaxson. Brother of Albert (Barbara), Butch, and Danny (Jodi). He is preceded by his cherished daughter, Jacqueline (Symes) Sawyer.
Dennis is best known for being a wonderful husband, a great dad, a loving Papa, a hard worker, and a devoted friend. His memory will forever be a blessing to all that knew and loved him.
Dennis’s funeral will be held from the Douglass, Edgerley, and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St. Reading at 10:30 am. Burial to follow at Wood End Cemetery, Reading. Funeral Home visiting hours will be held Friday, October 29, 2021, from 4-7 pm.
