Obituary: Peter John Barry, 58

April 27, 1963 – May 22, 2021

Peter J. Barry of Reading passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Lahey Clinic & Medical Center in Burlington. He was 58 years of age.

Born on April 27, 1963, in Brockton, Peter is the devoted son of the late John (Jack) Barry and Judith (Machini) Barry. Peter is a warm, kind, and loving son, brother, father, and friend. He will be deeply missed.

Peter was raised in Easton, MA. He graduated from Xaverian High School in Westwood, MA. He attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where he obtained his accounting degree and established his love for all things ND.

Peter began his accounting career at Ernst & Young and worked as a Controller in the asset management industry for many years at companies including Bank of America and most recently as Vice President of Finance at Wellesley Asset Management.

Peter and Stacy Mills met at work and welcomed their son John in 1992. They remained great friends and co-parents.

John and Peter were best friends and shared their love of Notre Dame, which John also attended. ND football games were the events of the year. John and Peter could be frequently found mini-golfing and enjoying Japanese steak houses. They enjoyed traveling together, with many trips to Disney and in recent years a memorable trip to London. Peter frequently traveled to New York City to visit John, including the family tradition of Thanksgiving steak dinners.

Peter loved his family and friends deeply. His ultimate joy was the small things in life and the time spent with loved ones. He was always the first to jump in and help out, something his family truly loved about him. He enjoyed bike riding, kayaking and watching great TV and movies.

Peter is the beloved father of John Barry. He is the dear brother of Sean Barry and Colleen Barry and the beloved partner of Sharon Beth Kavanaugh. Peter is the former husband of Stacy Mills.

A Funeral Mass Celebrating Peter’s Eternal Life will be held on Saturday, May 29th at 10:00 AM in St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St. Reading. The family requests that all guests meet directly at the Church. Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with Peter’s Family on Friday, May 28th from 1-5 PM in the Doherty – Barile Family Funeral Home, 11 Linden Street READING. Parking attendants and elevator are available. Interment Charles Lawn Memorial Park, Reading.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Peter’s name to his loved charities: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the Wounded Warrior Project.
