Reading, MA — In consultation with Dorothy Presser, from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, the School Committee voted on November 2, 6-0, on a timeline for hiring a new school superintendent. From November 9-19, the consultant will be hosting focus groups for various stakeholders, including parents, students, district staff, community members, and town department heads. These, along with results from an online survey, will guide the School Committee in developing which skills and characteristics they will be looking for in a successful candidate.
The position will be officially posted with a digital brochure, including a community and district profile, to various professional and job listing websites on November 30 with an application deadline of Wednesday, January 6. A 15-member screening committee consisting of administrators, staff, parents, and two School Committee members will review applications, interview semi-finalists, and ultimately present a finalists list to the School Committee on January 28. The School Committee will conduct site visits and interview the finalists before voting on February 11 to appoint the new superintendent, who will begin their tenure on July 1.
Information regarding how community members may participate in the focus groups, locating the online survey, and applying for a screening committee position will be forthcoming. The School Committee adjourned at 6:20 pm.
