Food Deliveries No Longer Accepted Due to COVID-19; Alternative Forms of Donation Encouraged
Reading, MA — The Reading Police and Fire Departments would like to extend their gratitude to the Reading community for their thoughtful food donations in the wake of COVID-19.
“We are extremely grateful for our community’s support during these uncertain times,” said Chief Clark. “The food donations were much appreciated, but, due to COVID-19 and out of concern for the health of our personnel, we can no longer accept food deliveries at this time. We encourage anyone who is inclined to donate to look toward supporting Reading’s local businesses. We ask that people donate a gift card from a local establishment which we will distribute to people in need.”
Reading Police and Fire encourage residents to support local businesses and buy gift cards from local restaurants, coffee shops, convenience stores, and grocery stores to be donated to people in need throughout the community.
Donations can be dropped off in a secured collection box at the entrance of the Reading Police Station, 15 Union St. The box is visible to dispatch and will be monitored by video surveillance 24/7.
“Gift cards that are dropped into the secured collection box will be distributed to those in need,” said Town Manager Bob LeLacheur. “We are working with town staff and volunteer networks in the community to determine the best method to share your generosity.”
Again, the Reading Police and Fire would like to thank the Reading community for all of their kind donations.
