Dear Community of Reading,
I have known Megan Fidler-Carey for the past two years as the Director of the Before and After School Program for Medford Public Schools. Megan is an intelligent and thoughtful colleague who works tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all Medford’s children and families. Ms. Fidler-Carey is a collaborator and problem solver. When Medford was having difficulty locating staff to work the before and after school program, Megan thought outside the box. She works closely with colleges and universities, with the School Committee, communicates with her colleagues on the board she Co-Chairs, the Massachusetts Network of Extended Day Directors, and recruits our high school students to work in the program. Megan has increased the number of children served in our after-school program by 20%. The environment for both staff and students is supportive as well as flexible. She provides professional development training in the areas of safety and security of four elementary schools, disability awareness, and CPR workshops. Recently, Megan advocated with our School Committee for fair wages for high school staff and annual cost-of-living increases for all staff.
Megan consistently communicates with administrators, staff, and families to keep all informed of any issues or concerns. When Megan decides to take on a project, she researches all her options and presents a detailed report. She is clear and concise and not afraid to tackle difficult questions. I have observed and been impressed by her presentations to the Medford School Committee. Her intrinsic motivation and incredible sense of humor help our programs run smoothly.
I highly recommend Ms. Megan Fidler-Carey for the office of Reading School Committee. She is committed and dedicated professional who will work for positive change for the Reading community.
Respectfully yours,
Diane J. Caldwell
