Reading had the opportunity to participate in a public input session last night before confirming our new Chief of Police, David Clark.

It was moving to see how many people have had wonderful experiences with our police force. I think everyone was very proud of our department. We also had a chance to thank them for their patience with this process.

I don’t know our new chief either professionally or personally so I was grateful to all those who shared their own experiences with him. While I trusted the committee and the Town Manager to make a good choice, I was glad to hear what his neighbors and fellow residents thought of him, and to hear reports from the Select Board about how much he is respected by his officers. I was also further reassured by members of the Select Board’s efforts to learn all they could once they knew who the candidate was.

I would like to thank the Town Manager and Select Board for providing this opportunity. With all of the knowledge I gained, I am even more invested in supporting the Reading Police Department and convinced he will make Reading proud as chief. I wish him every possible success.
