Where can you listen to great music and the boom of fireworks, race remote control cars and play a round of miniature golf, tour town trucks and visit a petting zoo? It’s all here and it’s free, at the 15th Annual Reading Lions Club Reading Friends and Family Day on Saturday, June 16, 2018. All events take place in the Birch Meadow Area. From the morning Kids Fun Run to the evening fireworks, you can look forward to a fun-filled day of activities, entertainment and information for all ages.
Since 2004, The Reading Lions Club has sponsored and organized Reading Friends and Family Day, also known as Town Day. This has now become a true community event as many groups have stepped up to both participate and become major sponsors.
This year’s activities begin with the FORR Kids Fun Run at 10:00. See the FORR website for registration information, www.forr01867.org. Reading Friends and Family Day booths and activities run from 10:30: A.M. through 3:00 P.M. Again, this year the YMCA is offering a community movie from 6:30 – 8:00 P.M. (be sure to bring a blanket). The day will finish with a bang at the Friends of Reading Recreation sponsored annual Fireworks performance!
Check out the booth and activity area for remote control race cars, petting zoo (10:30 – 1:30), jumpy castle, dunk tank, laser tag, trackless train, miniature golf, tours of town vehicles, plus demonstrations. Other ongoing activities include games, arts, and crafts. In addition to all the fun activities for kids, this is a chance to find out what is going on in your town! Representatives from many organizations, businesses and town departments will be on hand to share information on town happenings, education, safety, conservation, summer reading, and lots of meet and greet opportunities with local officials. Residents of all ages will enjoy a full day of food, giveaways, and demonstrations! When you need a break from all the excitement, grab a snack and head over to the Entertainment Stage.
Thanks to the support of our many sponsors this is a free community event! In addition to the Reading Lions Club, sponsors include Bertucci’s, Clear Captions, GBL Vending, Public Consulting Group, Inc., Reading Orthodontics, Reading Recreation Department, Reading Rotary Club, The Goddard School, Tierney Chiropractic and Winchester Hospital a Member of Lahey Health.
