Two-Alarm Fire Strikes House in Reading

Reading, MA — Fire Chief Gregory Burns and Deputy Police Chief David J. Clark report that crews are on the scene of a serious house fire in Reading. Firefighters and police officers responded at 9:18 p.m. to a single-family dwelling located at 24 Putnam Road for a reported house fire. Heavy fire was visible upon arrival, and a second alarm response was ordered by the incident commander.

Fire crews from Stoneham, North Reading, Woburn, Melrose, Wilmington, and Wakefield have all responded to the scene to provide mutual aid assistance.

All residents made it out of the house safely, and there are no reports of injuries. Main Street (Rt. 28) is shut down between Birchmeadow Drive and Forest Street in Reading, and the roadway, one of the main roads in Reading, will be shut down until the fire scene is clear. Fire crews from Stoneham, North Reading, Woburn, Melrose, Wilmington, and Wakefield have all responded to the scene to provide mutual aid assistance. The origin and cause of the fire will be investigated once the fire is extinguished.
